Dr. Gabriela Kalčikova completed her master’s degree at Brno University of Technology and pursued her PhD at the University of Ljubljana with a focus on waste management. After her PhD, she pioneered a new field of research on microplastics at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology at the University of Ljubljana. At the faculty, she is and associate professor and leads a dedicated research team on microplastics. Dr. Kalčikova is recognized as one of the leading European researchers in the field of microplastics and specialises in their production, characterization, environmental aging, and behaviour. Her work also includes the ecotoxicological effects of microplastics and strategies to reduce the environmental pollution by plastic waste.
